The Threat
DNC Chairman Howard Dean recently took to the Sunday morning talk show circuit to urge Democrats to choose a nominee by July 1st at the latest. The comment has been interpreted as a subtle hint to Senator Clinton to consider withdrawing gracefully from the playing field, since a protracted summer-long battle leading to a convention-floor battle royale can only weaken Obama in the general election against McCain.
Hillary Clinton wasted no time in responding to Dean. In an interview with the Washingon Post, she said: “I have no intention of stopping until we finish what we started and until we see what happens in the next 10 contests and until we resolve Florida and Michigan. And if we don’t resolve it, we’ll resolve it at the convention.” The full story on Reuters.com.
You don’t even need to read between the lines to get the message: “I don’t care about the Democratic Party. I don’t care about damaging Obama’s chances against McCain. I only care about one thing — winning.”
