Michael Moore: Hillary sounds like “a bigot stoking the fires of stupidity”

Michael Moore appeared on the Larry King Show tonight to explain his endorsement of Barack Obama and to reprise the points he made recently in a public letter posted on his website. A choice paragraph in Moore’s letter follows, when he describes what was, for him, the final straw: Continue reading →

Obama on the New Rev. Wright: “I Am Outraged!”

Reverend Wright Goes on Jeremiad

In Monday morning’s appearance at the National Press Club (organized Rev. Barbara A. Reynolds, the Speakers Committee member who is a supporter of by Hillary Clinton, by the way), the Reverend Jeremiah Wright made a couple of things quite clear.

1. He is no fan of Barack Obama’s.
2. He is in the market for a book deal, a movie deal, a television deal, etc.
3. He may be retiring from Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, but he isn’t retiring; get used to seeing him on the national scene.
4. He is very, very fond of himself.

Watch part of the press conference here (about 10 minutes): Continue reading →

Terry McAuliffe, circa 2004, as DNC Chair: “The Rules Are the Rules.”

Mark Nickolas has done an interesting bit of research (posted Friday on DailyKos) simply by reading former DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe’s book, What a Party! It seems Mr.McAuliffe held a very different opinion about the necessity of the party chairman holding firm to the Democratic party rules concerning the scheduling of primaries, and the penalties that were established to prevent states from moving their primaries ahead of New Hampshire’s. Hillary on Working Class Whites, circa 1995: “Screw ‘Em”

My, my, how times have changed. In her exhaustive dual biography of the Clintons, For Love of Politics, Sally Bedell Smith portrays a very different Hillary Clinton from the “good old girl” on display during the run-up to the Pennsylvania primary last week. Debating the merits of appealing to the Reagan Democrats who had deserted the party in the 80s (and still hadn’t returned completely to the fold in ‘92) Hillary’s recommendation was succinct: “Screw ‘em. You don’t owe them a thing, Bill, they’re doing nothing for you.” Continue reading →

Clyburn: Calls Bill Clinton’s Behavior “Bizarre”

On the NY Times blog The Caucus, Mark Leibovich today reported that House Majority Whip James Clyburn of South Carolina has taken the Clintons to task for the handling of their campaign, in particular calling the former president’s conduct “bizarre.” Clyburn also gave voice to the growing belief, in the black community and elsewhere, that the only possible logic behind the Clinton’s negative (and virtually unwinnable) campaign against Obama is to destroy him and thus enable a McCain victory in November, paving the way for another run by Hillary in 2012. Oh, by the way, Clyburn is still an uncommitted superdelegate.

Greg Craig: Hillary “Intensely Negative”

Greg Craig, Bill Clinton’s former lead counsel during his impeachment trial, was quoted this morning by Mike Lupica in his Daily News column. Speaking about the Clinton campaign — and about some people he knows very well — he said: “They have run an intensely negative campaign on all fronts. And for them to pretend otherwise is in itself a misrepresentation of the truth.” Continue reading →

Does Anybody Actually Believe Anything Terry McAuliffe Says?

Sam Youngman reports on TheHill.com today that the Clinton campaign is “on track” to raise $10 million in online donations in the 24 hours since the Pennsylvania primary was called in her favor. The “on track” quote apparently came from campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe, who also characterized the result in Pennsylvania as “game-changing,” and “historic outpouring of grassroots support.” On CNBC last evening Tim Russert reported that the campaign had sent its supporters an email asking for an immediate donation of $5.00. Bill Goes Off the Reservation Again

On MSNBC’s First Read, Mark Murray transcribes an interview of Bill Clinton conducted by WHYY Radio in Philadelphia (NPR affiliate), in which the former president seems far more concerned with his own legacy than with his wife’s campaign. This on the even of the Pennsylvania primary, arguably the most important day in his wife’s campaign, and a day when the focus should be on her. Questioned by WHYY about his comments on the day of the South Carolina primary. comments clearly intended to minimize Obama’s victory by comparing it to Jesse Jackson’s victory in ‘88, Clinton responded, “No. I think that they played the race card on me.” Say what?

Yes, you read correctly. Bill believes the Obama camp played the race card on HIM, when virtually every objective observer believes otherwise. This is the fundamental problem with both Bill and Hillary — it always depends on “what the meaning of the word is, is.” The full rant can be read on First Read, but here are some highlights: Continue reading →

Paglia: Women Shouldn’t Vote for Hillary

In a column written for The Telegraph, uber-feminist Camille Paglia spells out exactly “Why Women Shouldn’t Vote for Hillary Clinton.”

It’s well worth reading. Paglia’s closing warning:

“If Hillary loses, batten the hatches against a mass resurrection of paranoid, paleo-feminist martyrs, counting their wounds and wailing at the blood-red moon.”
