Christmas Removed from Macy’s Corporate Gift Guide
Macy’s Corporate Gift Guide arrived in the mail today, branded with the Macy’s tagline (tagword) for the 2009 Holiday season, “Believe.” A sprinkling of stars surrounds the word, spelled out using a traditional, scripted font.
Believe in what, we wondered?
Believe in the magic of Christmas? Well, no, since the word Christmas is nowhere mentioned in the catalog.
Believe in the Baby Jesus? Apparently not, since the Baby Jesus is the reason for the celebration of Christmas… again, nowhere to be referenced in the catalog.
Believe in God? Certainly not, since belief in Jesus Christ is belief in God, and well, it’s really a secular holiday after all, right?
So it must mean believe in Santa Claus or Saint Nick, right? Since after all, Macy’s is the perennial sponsor of the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, which culminates in the appearance of Santa Claus himself, floating down Central Park West and Broadway in his sleigh and with his reindeer to mark the beginning of the Christmas season? Well, no. Perhaps the wise and politically-correct executives at Macy’s felt that even Santa Claus would be too associated with the Christian celebration of Christmas.
Anyway, our guess is as good as yours. Macy’s must mean Believe in the Magic of the Holiday Season. Or, Believe in the Power of Spending! Or, Believe in Gift Giving! Or, Believe in Consumerism! I guess we can all look forward to the day when the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade culminates with a merry bearded dwarfish fellow, perhaps looking a bit more like Ben Bernanke, the savior of credit and spending.

i have for the past 5 years simply refused to spend any money at any establishment that has caved into the happy holiday moniker…shame on them, shame on those who shop and support this stupidity..fight back with your wallet as in don’t spend a dime….if it is just going to be marginalized as ‘happy holidays’ and just becomes and orgy of spending, then we might as well move the happy holiday to june 25th and we can go to the mall at least in our shorts, flip flops and t shirts instead of winter clothes lol and spend

Over the last few years I too, have stopped shopping at stores
that refuse to mention the word CHRISTMAS. I’m not even
religious. It’s just irritates me that stores are so afraid of offending anyone who isn’t Christian or doesn’t celebrate CHRISTMAS they won’t even use the word in their advertising or decorative displays. So if a store doesn’t welcome me in to shop
by wishing me a Merry Christmas in the window or out front.
I simply won’t go in. As Christians like to say “Jesus is the reason for the season.” We’re probably a little too materialistic and our
children expect to receive everything on their lists. We run ourselves ragged trying to accommodate them, but if any store
is too PC to use the word CHRISTMAS, well,… I am too PC to shop
at a store that won’t admit it would like it, if I spent loads of
money CHRISTMAS shopping there.
Macy’s is on the downslide anyway. I can’t think of a more appropriate way for them to accelerate themselves right out of retail. Good riddens.

Well, I BELIEVE I will not be spending a dime @ Macy’s.
The other day we had the annual holiday party at work. On one wall a sign read: Happy Kwanzaa. Another wall , Happy Hannukah. And on all the tables were decorative doodads and stars of David. Another table had an undecorated plastic evergreen tree. The omission was starkly apparent to all.

Im glad people are now waking up and finally deciding to boycott Macy’s. But why did it take a financial meltdown or for them to stop putting Merry Christmas in their catalogs for them to do it? Macy’s current management is degenerate and amoral; not the same Macy’s of previous generations. Poor folks are dumbells! They had a fire in their landmark store last week which scared shoppers and filled the store with suffocating smoke. They deserve bankruptcy.

Christmas was a celebration of the winter solstice way before Jesus was born (supposedly). Read your history. All I hear on here is quite a bit of bigoted speech from a lot of uneducated religious fundamentalist. I kind of doubt that this will sink through anyone’s thick-god-figure-needing head, but really people. Are we still in the age of superstitions? I see people talking about how “Christmas” was made as a celebration of the birth of a mythical figure as if it were fact, completely ignoring any real knowledge behind the traditional celebrations that were held on and around the solstice. And who really cares if Macy’s doesn’t mention Jesus or Christmas? Is it there job to? They just want to sell stuff, they’re a business. Really, I don’t like to insult people, but you all are really a bunch of morons and all your messages come across as religious fundamental bs. Not to be taken seriously by anyone.
