Jersey Shore. Sopranos Redux.
Since MTV is in the business of reinforcing negative stereotypes, we eagerly wait their next New Jersey-based projects currently in development, reality show Newark Crackhouse, and drama series Paterson Jihad.
Not true? Oh, yeah, sorry… MTV must only be in the business of reinforcing Catholic, Italian-American stereotypes. Judy McGrath, you should be ashamed of yourself. Thank you, Andre DeMino.
“MTV is resorting to trash television that panders for ratings at the expense of the Italian American community,” DiMino said in a letter to MTV Network’s Chair and CEO Judy McGrath. “This type of programming represents a direct affront and attack by MTV on the character of Italian Americans, the fourth-largest ethnic group in America. Neither this attack, nor any similar attack on any other ethnic group, should ever be tolerated.”
DiMino further added the program “sends the wrong message” to all as a whole by promoting and glamorizing poor behavior, the use of ethnic stereotypes, racial and ethnic slurs. “In the name of decency and fairness to millions of Italian Americans whose hard work helped build this Country, and provide a steady source of sponsorship, revenues, and support for your network, I am writing to your office to demand that you immediately pull this series before it airs,” DiMino noted.

Global Warming, No Doubt
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A fierce storm left dangerous ice, heavy snow and vicious winds in its wake as it slogged eastward Wednesday, snarling traffic and closing hundreds of schools from the Upper Midwest through New England.
More than a foot of snow was expected in parts of Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa, where the National Weather Service warned of “extremely dangerous blizzard conditions” and near whiteout driving conditions. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph could build snow drifts between 8 and 15 feet tall. Parts of New England also girded themselves for bone-chilling wind gusts and snow accumulations of up to a foot.

Reuters: New Health Care Deal Comes from Left Field
And all three new concepts are MAJOR changes to everything that has been put on the table so far. If they can figure out how to keep the Medicare expansion revenue-neutral (truly), it might be time for everybody to keep an open mind about this latest compromise.
Under the tentative Senate deal, the federal Office of Personnel Management would negotiate with private insurers to offer national non-profit health plans similar to those offered to federal employees.
Liberal Senate negotiators, who backed the public option as a way to create more competition for insurers, agreed to drop their support in exchange for allowing people aged 55 to 64 to “buy in” to the Medicare health plan for the elderly, which now begins at age 65.
The deal includes a provision that would require insurers to spend 90 percent of revenue from premiums on medical services, which could crimp their profits.

What? Terrorists Prefer Gitmo!
The weather in Cuba is much nicer. – KSM, leader of the group of five Al Qaeda terrorists heading to the Big Apple.
If the men accused of plotting the September 11 attacks wonder what conditions they might face when they are moved to New York from Guantanamo Bay for trial, they can expect solitary confinement, 23-hour-a-day lockdowns, constant video surveillance and almost no visitors.

Christmas Removed from Macy’s Corporate Gift Guide
Macy’s Corporate Gift Guide arrived in the mail today, branded with the Macy’s tagline (tagword) for the 2009 Holiday season, “Believe.” A sprinkling of stars surrounds the word, spelled out using a traditional, scripted font.
Believe in what, we wondered?
Believe in the magic of Christmas? Well, no, since the word Christmas is nowhere mentioned in the catalog.
Believe in the Baby Jesus? Apparently not, since the Baby Jesus is the reason for the celebration of Christmas… again, nowhere to be referenced in the catalog.
Believe in God? Certainly not, since belief in Jesus Christ is belief in God, and well, it’s really a secular holiday after all, right?
So it must mean believe in Santa Claus or Saint Nick, right? Since after all, Macy’s is the perennial sponsor of the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, which culminates in the appearance of Santa Claus himself, floating down Central Park West and Broadway in his sleigh and with his reindeer to mark the beginning of the Christmas season? Well, no. Perhaps the wise and politically-correct executives at Macy’s felt that even Santa Claus would be too associated with the Christian celebration of Christmas.
Anyway, our guess is as good as yours. Macy’s must mean Believe in the Magic of the Holiday Season. Or, Believe in the Power of Spending! Or, Believe in Gift Giving! Or, Believe in Consumerism! I guess we can all look forward to the day when the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade culminates with a merry bearded dwarfish fellow, perhaps looking a bit more like Ben Bernanke, the savior of credit and spending.

Why should they, argues the Left. Isn’t it better for society if everyone is healthy, whether they are citizens or “undocumented Americans?”

Société Générale tells clients how to prepare for ‘global collapse’ – Telegraph
The bears get closer and louder…
Governments have already shot their fiscal bolts. Even without fresh spending, public debt would explode within two years to 105pc of GDP in the UK, 125pc in the US and the eurozone, and 270pc in Japan. Worldwide state debt would reach $45 trillion, up two-and-a-half times in a decade…
The underlying debt burden is greater than it was after the Second World War, when nominal levels looked similar. Aging populations will make it harder to erode debt through growth. “High public debt looks entirely unsustainable in the long run. We have almost reached a point of no return for government debt,” it said.

Palin on O’Reilly: Reaganesque
Bill O’Reilly: Bill’s Column – Hammering Sarah.
With the possible exceptions of Richard Nixon and George W. Bush, no politician of the modern era has been more derided by the media than Sarah Palin. And the attacks did not stop with her; they included nasty rumors about her family and even the mocking of her children. – Bill O’Reilly
